|I get asked on occasion, Mike, what do you do with any extra seed packets that you have leftover from the Seeds of the Month Club? Do you donate the seed packets? Do you throw the Seed Packets away? Or, Do you simply give them away? All great questions, and all with simple answers. Yes, No, Yes. I’ll explain more below.|
What do you do with all of those extra seed packetsThere really are only 3 options (beyond planting them all) when it comes to the extra seed packets we have from operating the Seeds of the Month Club. We donate them, we could simply throw them away, or we could just give them away.
Do you throw the seed packets away?We do not throw away any seed packets. To me, that seems like a waste. These are perfectly good seeds, and there are people out there that could use them. There are a lot of companies out there that do this, we, are not one of them. I just hate throwing things away that are still good and can be put to a good use.
Do you donate the extra seed packetsYes. We have a list of seed libraries and schools that we donate some of our extra seeds to. In order to get on the list of schools you have to go through the The Seed Keeper Project. This is an annual giveaway where schools are nominated to receive free seeds. If you operate a seed library, then we will make a donation to that seed library in February, March or April.
Do you give the seed packets awayThe short answer is yes, and the reason for this blog article. At the end of every June, we tally up our remaining stock to see if there is an abundance of seed packets that we can simply give away to the public. This year there are, and I describe below how you can get your seed packets.
