Black Beauty Eggplant is a delicious and versatile vegetable that is very popular in home vegetable gardens worldwide. Black Beauty Eggplants can grow up to two to three feet tall and produce as many as four or more fruit.

Many gardening experts agree that the Black Beauty Eggplant is one of our home vegetable garden's best meat substitutes.

Black beauty eggplant is great in various culinary uses such as fried or in casseroles, or even mixed with other vegetables. My favorite is eggplant parm.

While this is not my favorite method of growth, Black Beauty Eggplant grows fairly well in large containers. I find that they do better in a garden bed.

When and Where to Plant Your Black Beauty Eggplant Seeds

Start your Black Beauty Eggplant seeds indoors or in a hotbed about eight to ten weeks prior to warmer temperatures in your area. I like to start my seeds under grow lights with a heat mat underneath to help the seeds along.

For a later crop of Black Beauty Eggplants, start your seeds directly outdoors in a warm and sunny location well after the weather in your area warms up. You will want to cultivate your soil deeply and enrich it with good vegetable food and organic matter. Make sure you firm the soil over your Black Beauty Eggplant seeds.

How to Care for Your Black Beauty Eggplant Plants

Keep the soil in your garden bed moist. The best way for your soil to retain its moisture is to use mulch. I like to use straw. This also helps with keeping your garden bed weed less. Just make sure you add in a barrier between the soil and the mulch of your choice.

Finally, be sure to feed your Black Beauty Eggplants every four to six weeks with the vegetable food as noted above.

How to Harvest Your Black Beauty Eggplant

Pick your Black Beauty Eggplant when the fruit is glossy and a dark purple. I like to snip off the fruit with scissors so as to not do any damage to the plant from pulling to hard.
